Technology, tradition and poetry
For this exceptional piece of furniture combining a structure in sculpted solid ebony with covered parchment panels, I wanted to combine the unique know-how of my cabinetmakers with an innovative image sublimation process.
One summer, I took a series of photographs of shadows cast by rosemary bushes on the terrace of my house in Sicily. I wanted to share these beautiful images of light and shadow by incorporating them poetically into one of my creations. Thanks to this patented and unique controlled oxidation process, I was able to develop my images on parchment panels coated with oxidized and varnished silver leaf, and then I composed a mosaic of these photographs to adorn the three sides of the cabinet.
The piece of furniture was then transformed into an imaginary and precious "Herbolarium" where technology, tradition and poetry converse in harmony.

the king of the woods
Ebony is the "king of woods"...
It is a rare and precious wood whose naturally dark color is highly sought after because it could be mistaken for metal.
Indeed, solid ebony is the densest wood that exists; it is also called "ironwood" because a piece of ebony submerged in water sinks!
It is so hard that it can be worked like steel.
It only needs polishing to make it shine; no varnish is necessary.
This is why it is used to make musical instruments: clarinets, oboes, flutes…
