A stormy day in Sicily
like a precious ship
One stormy day, in the port of Catania, Sicily, gigantic ships with wonderfully rusted hulls lay at dock…
This is where the inspiration for this pair of cabinets with essential shapes comes from: a compact cube like a ship's hull, suspended on a curved wooden structure reminiscent of boat carcasses.
I used a special lacquer to recreate this oxidized metal texture: a material that is both raw and precious, which is highlighted by the blackened wooden base.
Inside the "ship," everything is upholstered in leather, like a captain's luxurious cabin. All aboard, the long voyage begins!
Numbered edition of 8 signed pieces.

Inspired by Japanese lacquer masters
To create this lacquered wood cabinet, we used the centuries-old expertise of a master lacquerer with whom we developed a material effect inspired by ancient Japanese techniques:
The lacquer is sprayed in drops, and the superimposed layers of different colors reappear as the surface is sanded, creating this flake effect.
It looks as if the table has been showered with delicately colored pigments…
