_Pedestal table

geometric jewel

"Art Deco" style

The Orion side table owes all its elegance to the geometry that governs its every proportion.

The hexagon is the starting point for the precious marquetry that adorns the tabletop: this marquetry was inspired by the shapes that form in a kaleidoscope.

I chose Macassar ebony, one of the emblematic woods of the Art Deco era of the 1930s, to achieve maximum graphic effect.

This wood comes mainly from the tropical regions of Indonesia where its exploitation is now highly controlled.

The base of the pedestal table is made of solid ebony. This exceptionally hard wood allows for very fine and clean joints, as you can see on the star-shaped crossbar that ends in a perfect point in the center.

The king of the woods

Ebony is the "king of woods"...

It is a rare and precious wood whose naturally dark color is highly sought after because it could be mistaken for metal.

Indeed, solid ebony is the densest wood that exists; it is also called "ironwood" because a piece of ebony submerged in water sinks!

It is so hard that it can be worked like steel.

It only needs polishing to make it shine; no varnish is necessary.

This is why it is used to make musical instruments: clarinets, oboes, flutes…
