Plant calligraphy
like a line of ink drawn on paper…
The Atys console was inspired by a book by the painter Fabienne Verdier, who recounts her training with a master calligrapher in China: she spent several years drawing only lines of paper! A true meditation aimed at mastering both her hand and her mind…
I needed to find a type of wood that had the graphic appearance of an ink line drawn on paper…
Thus, the choice of white ebony became obvious.
The console is constructed like an architectural structure: two columns with cut corners mounted on polished stainless steel galleries support the tabletop and form a majestic portico.
These columns become the supports for a very dynamic marquetry. Everything lies in the rhythmic vibration of the marquetry work.

A rare and surprising wood
The Atys console is made of white ebony from Laos.
This albino wood is an exception of nature; therefore, it cannot be cultivated. It is only found by chance during logging operations, which speaks volumes about how precious and difficult to source this wood is. What makes it even more exceptional is that the part usable for marquetry is concentrated in the heartwood of the tree, the rest being grainless.
