Commission from the National Furniture Collection

In 2019, the Mobilier National commissioned Nicolas Aubagnac to design a desk and its sideboard.

The cabinetmakers of ARC (Atelier Recherche Création) were entrusted with the creation of these pieces, in their experimental workshop located within the historic buildings created by Auguste Perret in 1937.

While meeting ergonomic criteria, notably with integrated USB ports, this desk and side table boast a timeless aesthetic. They also represent a technical feat, combining a traditional material, Macassar ebony, with a contemporary material, Corian. The two-tone effect of the two materials underscores the dialogue between traditional woodworking and experimental design.

To emphasize the official function and purpose of the piece, two translucent resin strips were set into the tabletop, one blue, the other red. A discreet celebration of the republican colors.

The desk is equipped with two pull-out shelves that open like wings thanks to a specially developed ball bearing mechanism.

Strength, nobility, balance, this project of a symbolic nature is now open for publication.
