In 2019, the French Republic commissioned Nicolas Aubagnac to create a carpet on the theme of "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity." Thus began a great adventure that should conclude around 2027…
The development and weaving of the project were entrusted to the Gobelins Manufactory, created in 1601 by Henry IV. This carpet, which the creator named "Triad", is a true symbolic tableau and a high-flying technical feat: on a background of sky more real than life unfolds an immense cockade where letters dance which gradually form the words Liberty, Equality, Fraternity.

This 20m² carpet requires three full-time weavers, who will tie no fewer than 1,872,000 knots by hand. The Manufacture's dye workshop had to create 32 custom pure colors, 14 of which were used solely for the sky, not counting the mixtures, bringing the total to 63 colors!

A work of Herculean effort and extreme patience that gives full value to the excellent artisans who work to create a true cultural heritage.
